California Nebula is a large emission nebula in the constellation of Perseus. Hydrogen gas in the nebula glows because of the radiation from the bright, hot and bluish star Xi Persei which is visible near the center of the image. California nebula extends across 100 ly of space and is some 1500 ly distant. |
